If they only accepted the help that was offered to them they would still be alive.
I'm sure that apology helps anyone who was involved.
I hereby apologize for the my role in the slave trade. I wasn't actually involved in any way; neither I nor my ancestors owned any slaves nor profited from the slave trade, whether as farmers in Saxon Anhalt or later as workmen in Cincinnati from 1867. But apology seems to be the flavour of the month, so here is mine.
