We can't end gun violence because the NRA and gun manufacturers give lots of money to our Congress and Senate. 80% of America support universal background checks, but it can't get passed because our politicians like the money they get and don't want it to stop.

It certainly is a gender stereotype. Women are bad at math because they have been given permission.
As most teachers are female, they have encouraged this stereotype and gotten their male colleagues to agree with them. The advice "Schools should meet targets for the numbers and gender balance recruited to physics A-level” simply means that boys will also be discouraged from taking maths, as that is easier than convincing girls they no longer have permission.
