Trump Plans National Emergency to Build Border Wall as Senate Passes Spending Bill
Oh great. When the Democrats get in, they can say that healthcare and climate change constitute a national emergency, moving money from defence to something more important.
National Emergency still in effect
Carter: blocked Iranian government property from entering the
US
Since that first order in 1979, American
presidents have declared 58 national emergencies. According to the Brennan
Center's running count, 31 of these are still in effect
Most have been renewed for years on end. And
during the 40 years the law has been in place, Congress has not met even once,
let alone every six months, to vote on whether to end them.
Here's a full list of the 31 active national
emergencies under the National Emergencies Act, dating back to the Carter
administration:
