“Sensible woman - avoiding a quagmire where both sides regularly commit war crimes and come complete with rabid supporters and apologists in every western country.

PS: Bit silly of the UN to announce this before getting confirmation that she was available.

“I don't think she thought that the government shouting at their contacts in Israel would actually DO anything - she merely thought that the effort could be trumpeted to win minority votes. 

That was her job, after all: to win minority votes.

If you are hired to do a job and no-one listens or acts on your advice, then resignation seems a reasonable option. Some would stay on and keep fighting, others would move on to other things - as she has.”
