"What we need are visionary headteachers with a clear ethos and strong aspirations for the pupils under their care, leading committed teachers and other staff who support the pupils to set and achieve stretching goals"
You may need to have a long talk with the teachers unions about that one. Don't like your chances of getting much beyond lip-service agreement.

“Sad to see him go. He worked to realize a vision, giving lots of people fun, employment and useful tools along the way.

Besides, anyone who, at the age of 27, can walk into a fortune 100 company called Pepsico and say to the CEO: "John, do you want to sell sugar-water all your life or do you want to come with me and change the world?" So John Sculley joined Apple. That's chutzpah.

“Yeah, but Archie Bunker was loved because his racism was so demonstrably, outrageously and inevitably just plain wrong. He probably did more to make people look at their own racism than any TV character except Cosby's Dr Huxtable.

“This story misrepresents the facts. The Alabama legislators don't want to get rid of illegal immigrants picking fruit or plucking chickens at firms they own shares in, just the ones where they don't.

“Okay, so the NYPD didn't know much about how to go about intelligence gathering to protect their citizens from harm after 911. They asked some folks at the CIA for training, since that organization has expertise in intelligence gathering EGAD!
Then they did some intelligence gathering in areas where terrorists might successfully hide. HORRORS!
They even ignored geographic political boundaries, because they knew that their targets did not respects these boundaries. OMG!
Finally, they did not let the fact that they were doing this leak to their targets. WELL I NEVER!!

Shouldn't we crucify them?

“The best government that money can buy."

But Ryan is no different from the rest of us: cut government spending and tax loopholes, except for those that benefit me - oh, and while you are at it, raise the other guys taxes.

“What does this have to do with the government?
Best thing government can do is get out of the way.
Having said that, what a sorry excuse for an attempt at a news story:
1) under pressure by who?
2) When 1/2 of the places ave been filled, 4 of 5 applicants will not get a place?  Yeah, and, once 3/4s of the places are filled, then 4.5 out of 5 won't.
3) Thanks for the comments from the authoritative Rick Casey: who is he again?
If this is the new journalism, I can see why no one wants to pay for it.
