Reporting on deep backgrounder briefings shows the complete lack of self-respect of the reporters. Naturally, officials realise that deep-backgrounders given to untrustworthy people will be reported and so are careful not to cover anything they don't WANT to have leaked. A cynical and dishonourable exercise on both sides.
