Of course you are right about who pays for Social Security and Medicare. Sadly, it was not just obama and the liberals whole stole the money, both sides of the aisle have been stealing it for decades, with both fists.
However, if you want to ring fence those programs and not increase revenues, and you know that our budget deficit currently equals our discretionay spending, you know we will need to cut out ALL discretionary spending to balance the budget. No discretionary spending in:
Security, incl defense, overseas contingencies, and Homeland Security ($815 billion)
Veteran Aministration, incl medical care for veterans ($60.1 billion)
Health and Human Services, incl. food safety and center for disease control ($84 billion)
Education, incl Pell grants and special ed ($64.3 billion)
Transportation, incl FAA, road and bridge repair ($49 bllion)
Housing and Urban Development, incl for homeless vets ($42.8b)
Justice, incl some courts and federal prisons ($27.6 billion)
Agriculture, incl forestry and food safety ($25 billion).
“Gosh. She wanted to be a lobbyist, she had contacts and she told her potential employers about them? How dare she! She should have lied on her application and said she didn't know anyone.”
PS: For those who want to ban all lobbyists: Careful.
Every citizen is entitled to lobby the politicians who run the country. The latest vacancies list for paid lobbyists include the Access to Justice Foundation, British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection, Institution of Civil Engineers and the following registered charities: Parkinsons UK, Consumer Credit Counselling Service, World Vision, Christian Aid, Royal National Institute of Blind People and the YMCA
“Well, lying personal attack ads have been shown to work. Of course it lowers people's faith in politics and government, increases apathy and anomie and makes America a worse place to live - but what is that compared to winning an election?
“This failure is clearly the fault of BOTH sides. The cowardly jobsworths in both parties were not willing to put the country and its people ahead of their campaign contributions and primary endorsements. Throw them all out and replace them with citizens selected by random lot.
“Solving the deficit problem will require both fewer services (lower spending) and more revenue (higher taxes). That is why the jobsworths in congress will do nothing about it. Both cuts in service and rises in taxes cost votes. Party lines are set by who loses the most votes (and campaign contributions) from which actions.
You've heard of "Disgusted, Tunbridge Wells"? Well, I live in Holland Park and I've Had It. Up to here! An old curmudgeon, I rant and rave about things I read, see or hear in the News. Frequently sarcastic, irreverent and libertarian; often wrong - but never uncertain.
