“Well of course! Our politicians, both Republican and Democrat, all know that the debt crisis is severe and that we will be bankrupt by 2016 if major changes are not made - but they do not want to risk not getting re-elected, because they care more about themselves than they care about their country. If we can just get someone else to do the necessary, then we can all blame him and continue borrowing from our grandchildren to fund our current lifestyle.

“"American's belief in our form of government and how well it works is now at only 42%"
This is mostly thanks to attack ads by both parties - or, perhaps, all  parties. These ads (whether from dumbocrats, retroblicans or tea bagers) increase anomie and apathy, making America a worse place to live. But, what's that compared to winning a 2-year term in congress

“Sterotypes are simply humanity's way to organise the chaos that is our world. We have sterotypes about cats and dogs, foxes and bears, toothpaste, cigarettes and booze. Education is an attempt to remove the negative (fear-causing or hate-inducing) components of stereotypes and accentuate their predictive ability.
As long as one remembers that the map is not the terrain, stereotypes are esssential to living. No one can function considering each person in the world (or each stimulus of any kind) as unique.

“True about racists. But other tea party, republican, democrat and independent voters DO like brown people. We know that they make a significant contribution to our economy, our society and our country. We just don't like people who ignore our laws whenever they think it will bring them a personal benefit to do so.

“"...unwelcome environment for people of color and those in search of a better life"
No, it is an unwelcome environment for people who do not respect the laws of our land.   We WANT immigrants who enter legally.

True, racists don't like brown people. But other tea party, republican, democrat and independent voters DO like brown people.
