“Part of the problem is that America (and wall street 24/7) is drunk on education as opposed to jobs. The heavy focus on "white collar jobs" is one reason why manufacturing has moved overseas. (The other two reasons is that overseas, they do it cheaper and they do it better.) America has deveoped an idea that people who make things are not as good as people who shuffle papers: they respect them more and they pay them more. Pretty silly, when one thinks about it.
